About Megan
I am Megan Lipsett - an integrative health educator, speaker, mindfulness teacher, and leadership coach. With a background in both psychology and integrative health, I have extensive experience facilitating transformation and optimal well-being for both individuals and organizations. I recognize the inherent value of each individual and have dedicated my life to supporting people in remembering who they truly are and serving their communities. Throughout my life, I have been committed to social equality and environmental sustainability. In addition to personal well-being, I support visionary leaders in establishing their practices and creating powerful community change.
I have been teaching courses at the California Institute of Integral Studies since 2012. My courses include: Mindful Health and Optimal Well-being, Sustainable Health and Ecology, and The Business of Wellness. I have held leadership roles for organizations such as CPMC's Institute for Health and Healing, Camp Grounded, MetaIntegral Foundation’s Integral Health and Medicine Center, and Off the Mat, Into the World. I have facilitated trainings and done program development for organizations such as One Medical, San Francisco Safe House, and Fred Finch Youth Center. I received a bachelor's degree in psychology (emphasis in cognitive psychology) from the University of Colorado at Boulder in psychology, a master's degree in Integrative Health and certification as an integrative health and wellness coach and program manager from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and multiple certifications in yoga and meditation. I have studied Ayurveda with Dr. Sarita Shrestha, M.D., the teachers at the Yoga Vidya Gurukul in Trivandrum, India, and Scott Blossom. I have influences from various fields, such as health psychology, ecopsychology, indigenous medicine, neuroscience, dynamic physiology, Vipassana meditation, permaculture, and community health.
My wellness approach integrates allopathic and traditional medicine. My practices are based in mindfulness, sustainability, and self-empowerment. My approach to healing is integrally-informed, collaborative, and celebratory. I take into account the quality of life, meaning, purpose, happiness and vitality of each individual. The focus of the advice and deep listening given is on education, empowerment, creative expression, and lasting health and vitality. Practices offered are distinct for each person, but always work to empower them to cultivate both inner and outer health and well being.
Philosophy
Imbalances of the physical and mental body begin first at the level of consciousness. I engage people in participatory forms of self-care and self-inquiry to restore balance to their dynamic system. Mindfulness practices influence our ability to take responsibility of the actions of our daily lives - infusing them with compassion, discernment, and equanimity. The health of each individual person is also interdependent on the health of all living systems, which is why self-care practices which support the greater good are essential.
I take into account the psychophysiologic constitution of each individual to create practices that will promote physical, social, spiritual, and mental well-being. This form of care aligns individuals with meaning and purpose, quality of life, and vitality. Nutrition, communication, mindfulness, digestive and immune functioning, connection to nature, and movement are all invaluable aspects of such a process. The focus of the advice and deep listening offered is on education, empowerment, creative expression, and optimal health and human flourishing
Purpose
I believe that human flourishing and optimal well-being are developed through lifestyle and self-care practices that are shaped by an awareness to living systems and an individual’s connection to one’s self, one’s community, and the environment. I champion projects in order to directly address the origins of dis-ease, through encouraging accountability in resource use, practices of self-inquiry that align individuals with their life’s purpose, and engagement in lifestyle practices that are empowered, mindful, and sustainable.
”The root metaphor of integral medicine is a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. At its heart are mind-body holism and collaborative learning. Healing and the creation of health must emphasize educational, self-care, and community support models.” Jean Hamilton
Commitment
I am committed to igniting purposeful, passionate, and vibrant communities of people. My teachings raise awareness about the beneficial impact of mindfulness and sustainability in our health practices and behaviors on the individual, social, and environmental levels. I connect my clients to resources and projects that reflect a whole, preventative, participatory, and integrative medicine. I am dedicated to bringing the practices of self-awareness and responsive behavior into our culture and systems. I facilitate visionary, effective, and meaningful leadership and organizational development through insightful inquiry and conscious collaboration. I am also deeply passionate about empowering individuals to re-connect with their food sources and to make healthful and nourishing food choices.
